Artisan Bread

Artisan bread is defined as bread made “from scratch” in small batches by the hands of a truly skilled baker. Years of dedicated bread making teaches artisan bakers to trust in their senses (sight, smell, touch, etc.) to determine exact mixing, kneading, baking and finishing processes rather than relying on a stagnant recipe. Our expert artisan bakers have learned, perfected and embrace this time-honored, artisan tradition.

Taste and Texture: The Hearth of Artisan Bread

Made with the finest quality flour and ingredients, the taste and texture of artisan bread are its distinguishing features. To this end, many of our artisan breads are hand-shaped — a gentle process that preserves the interior bread structure (known to bakers as the “crumb”) and forms a more open network of holes — a unique texture that enlivens the flavor.

We also use a hearth oven with a genuine stone deck to bake our artisan breads. This deck transfers heat evenly and quickly, producing a wonderful caramelized crust.

Market District Artisan Breads

Artisan Breads That Rise To New Heights

If you ask our bakers, they’ll tell you that everyone who tries our signature Bread & Chocolate or Parmesan breads agree they’re the toast of the town! Made fresh daily, they elevate the proverbial diet of bread and water to gourmet status. And as always, loafing is encouraged!

Bread & Chocolate

A rustic, authentic Tuscan loaf loaded with chunks of dark Belgian chocolate — nearly 30% chocolate, according to our lavish bakers. Like nothing you’ve ever tasted until you try it again and again and again.

Indulging Ideas

  • Slice thick and eat plain as breakfast or a snack
  • Warm slightly in a toaster oven (not, a toaster) and spread with sweet butter, almond butter or natural peanut butter
  • Use to make French toast with Belgian flair

Parmesan

A fresh-baked, home-style Italian loaf with imported Parmesan rolled inside and sprinkled on top. Lightly crusted with a tangy, sharp Parmesan favor. Slices uniformly for a spectacular sandwich bread.

Indulging Ideas

  • Serve with spaghetti or chili and dip generously
  • Slice into thin pieces and top with chopped tomatoes, onions and basil — an easy bruschetta
  • Create the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich with your favorite artisan cheese
  • Cube and toast for croutons (you’ll never eat a Caesar salad without them again)
