Eco-Friendly, Sustainable Seafood

Alaska Seafood Fresh Halibut

The earth is mostly water and that means (for us) a commitment to buying from fisheries that use only sustainable practices in harvesting wild, natural seafood — like Alaska Seafood, who brings us the season’s first catch of fresh halibut.

All Alaska Seafood fish is wild and managed for protection against overfishing, habitat damage and pollution (i.e. does not damage the ecosystem, even long term). This means that their fisheries are strictly regulated, closely monitored and rigidly enforced, setting the standard for precautionary resource management. We like that!

And the flavor of Alaska Seafood’s sustainable halibut? Incredible! Known as the “steak of seafood,” it is slightly sweet and delicate, but firm enough to grill or roast. Plus, a 3 oz. cooked serving is an excellent source of lean protein that is low in sodium and rich in niacin, vitamin B6 and vitamin D.

Pesto Changeo!

Giving Unconventional Pesto the Green Light! As if the traditional basil version wasn’t enchanting enough, it’s magic the way any fresh green herb can be transformed into an innovative pasta entrée or a superb side for our fresh Alaska Seafood halibut! Try this Basil Pesto recipe as is (a go-to on pasta), or treat it as a model to make any kind of pesto you like. Use your imagination, mix up ingredient combinations, start with an uncommon leaf (mustard garlic, cinnamon basil or parsley) and go wild! Need inspiration? Consider these unique pesto medleys, all which we love:

  • Oregano, Walnuts & Olive Oil
  • Mint, Almonds & Olive Oil
