With Rich Rosenberg, Cheese and Charcuterie Buyer
Rich likes sweets about as much as he likes picnics, so when we shared our summer dessert theme, he immediately turned to his collection of decadent dessert cheeses that take sweet to a savory level — and we're so glad he did! Presenting Rich's final course riches along with suggested accompanying tunes (see, Rich IS a sweet guy).
Baked Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake
This specialty is made in Puglia, Italy from a blend of cow and water buffalo milk, sugar and famous Italian lemons — all baked to blissful, creamy, sweet perfection. Serve thin slices topped with a few Spanish marcona almonds or our caramelized Spanish walnuts, a flute of bubbly and the soundtrack for "Big Night." If you haven't watched, do!
Espresso BellaVitano® Reserve
Exactingly aged BellaVitano wheels rubbed with freshly roasted ground espresso beans, this after dinner treasure is creamy with hints of sharpness and a slight coffee overtone. I serve with dried apricots, a porter or stout beer and put on a little Dire Straits' "Expresso Love" (obvious, but so satisfying).
First place winner at the 2014 World Championship Cheese Contest, this lusciously rich Mozzarella is filled with shreds of Mozzarella soaked in cream. Serve quartered, sprinkle with freshly ground black tellicherry pepper, a drizzle of Market District extra virgin olive oil and a side of fresh grilled vegetables for the perfect foil. The music? "Mambo Italiano" by Dean Martin or Rosemary Clooney.
Purely American, this artisanal goat's milk cheese, layered with vegetable ash, is as visually stunning as it is delicious. "Buttermilk and fresh cream complemented with floral notes, herbal overtones and a clean citrus finish:" that's how they describe it and I couldn't agree more. Serve with a dollop of Bonnie's Jams Apricot Orange, roasted pistachios and Mediterra Monk Bread while grooving to "All Along The Watchtower" by Jimi.
