Bastille Day French Wine & Cheese
Bastille Day is the name given in English to the French National Day, celebrated on July 14 each year. This day commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on the same day in 1789, a turning point in the French Revolution. The day celebrates French culture with parades, parties (lots of good food and wine), dancing and fireworks! Pouilly-Fuissé & St. André
Pouilly-Fuissé is a blend of Chardonnay grapes from four villages in Burgundy’s Mâconnais region: Solutré-Pouilly, Fuissé, Vergisson and Chaintré. The vines are scattered over amphitheater-like slopes at altitudes of 1,000 to 1,300 feet to help maximize sun exposure. It is well-balanced, with crisp acidity, rich white fruit and citrus flavors and a refreshing finish. Hints of mineral and stone flavors are also notable. We recommend pairing with a triple-crème, like St. André, which is a soft-ripened cheese with a bloomy rind that offers a complex counterpoint to its rich and silky center. As dense as pure butter and with the richest of flavors, its salty tang comes from the ocean air blowing through the pâturages of the Normandy coast.
Bordeaux Red Blends & Chaumes
Medium, full-bodied, dry red wines, such as those from the Graves region — Bordeaux blends boast flavors of cherry, raspberry, blackberry, violets and a hint of tobacco. Definitely pair with Chaumes: a soft-ripened French cheese distinguished by its bright orange, washed rind; soft, springy texture; rich, creamy paste; full-bodied flavor and hazelnut aftertaste.
Bordeaux Rouge & Ile de France Camembert
A left-bank sourced, well-balanced blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (the main grape) and Merlot, Bordeaux Rouge possesses a classic elegance, with aging that gives it charm and well-rounded character. We pair it with Ile de France Camembert. This is an earthy, full-flavored and creamy fromage that features mushroom and nutty overtones — with an extraordinary aromatic bouquet!
